THE ABUNDANCE OF AMINO ACIDS IN THE HADEAN ERA SET THE STAGE FOR LIFE!

When I was formulating this theory, I thought I would need to convince the reader that meteorites delivered most of the amino acids needed to initiate Emergent Chemical Evolution (ECE). But thanks to Z. Martins and others I do not have to try so hard anymore; because back in 2007 they wrote an article on this very subject. In which they claim that the amino acids delivered by chondrites would have played a part in starting life on earth . This is one of the central claims of Emergent Chemical Evolution. The necessity of some scientists to prove how amino acids were produced on Earth from scratch seems to be totally unwarranted. Especially when, for over thirty years, it has been commonly known that chondrites contain, since before the formation of the solar system, over seventy different types of amino acids. And there is overwhelming evidence that there was a period of heavy bombardment just prior to the emergence of life. I propose that these meteorites were the primary source o...

How Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Affected Hadean Oceans at the Start of Life!

The amount of carbon dioxide has undoubtedly increased in the last hundred years-thanks to the activities of man. The amazing thing, about this problem, is that the content of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is just 0.0391% (as of 10/2012). This amazingly small amount of carbon dioxide in the air is enough to cause the acidification of todays oceans. This small acidification of the oceans is still such that it is causing havoc on thousands of coral colonies by bleaching them and keeping millions of plankton from forming complete skeletons. This small amount of carbon dioxide is still large enough to have a major impact on life in the oceans today.  Life is impacted despite being self-contained organisms with membranes; impacted despite having mechanisms to maintain their internal pH; impacted despite there being a fully oxygenated atmosphere. Would it not then stand to reason, that a larger amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere on the prebiotic Earth would have had ...

Announcing My Book on How Life Started!!!

Back in 2004 in order to complete my Chemistry Degree, I decided to take an Introduction to Philosophy class. It was here that the professor informed us that one of life's biggest questions, exactly how life had started on Earth, was not yet answered! I was so taken aback by this revelation that I nearly toppled over backwards in my chair. For nearly two decades I was under the mistaken impression that we knew exactly how it all had happened. The reason I was under such an impression was because back in the summer of 1987 I had read the Scientific American book called Molecules to Living Cells. By the end of which, I remember, being very convinced that we already knew exactly how life had started; but then again, I was only seventeen and, I guess, very impressionable. Well that same day in 2004 when I returned home from my philosophy class, I found Molecules to Living Cells and began rereading it. By the time I had read the first quarter of the introduction, I realized that- ye...

Nature's Modular Molecules

These are Molecules that are Easy to String Together, Can Catalyze Any Reaction, and Themselves Be a Source to Make More Molecules. When I was reading my biochemistry text it struck me as very odd of how little it discussed about exactly how RNA and then DNA are synthesized! There was only ONE paragraph on the subject. All it said was that the synthesis of all biomolecules, in cells, BEGINS with the MODIFICATION OF AMINO ACIDS! That was the complete discussion on the synthesis of (and amino acids role in) the synthesis of non-protein molecules. Pay attention here is the key concept: if Life Evolved and by our best estimates has blundered onto the most efficient way to synthesize molecules shouldn't we begin from there? Now shouldn't it make you take notice that life not only breaksdown its food to amino acids, begins all its synthesis with the modifications of amino acids, carries out all its important reactions with amino acids(as proteins), and the most abundant organic m...
